Eating Clean and Fitness

Since the end of 2010 I have been focusing on eating clean and my fitness. For a long time I have been wanting to be healthy and toned. Finally the opportunity and time came around to do so. Now my goal is to be fit and healthy like the woman on the right.

Initially I have started with trying to quit Dr. Pepper cold turkey. I have tried a couple of times and each time I get more successful with how long before I drink it again. The reason why I want to quit is because 1) its not good for you 2) it causes weight gain and bloating. Each time when I have tried to quit I have lost 5lbs and I am sure if I would have stopped completely I could have lost at least 20lbs.

The reason why I go back is because I like the taste and when I get stressed out I turn to it. But like I said I get better each time. The alternatives I like to drink are sugar free ice tea, flavored water, water (although it gives me heartburn sometimes) and some juices.

Like mentioned above, I am trying to eat clean as well. Which is basically non-processed foods. More natural and organic. Which is kind of tricky because of farmers, the government, fda and companies are lying about GMOs in organic and natural food. GMO is Genetically Modified Organisms. Most recently there was a case about Kelloggs Kashi cereal that was supposed to be natural or organic and used GMOs that were found in pesticides.

So I have been purchasing more fruits and vegetables from Walmart. I know Walmart is probably not a good source and a big GMO plant but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. Plus I do not live near a Whole Foods or Trader Joes. More recently though I heard that Whole Foods is now manufacturing out of China. I feel like your screwed no matter how healthy or clean you try to be, but its important to keep up the effort. Your insides will thank you. 🙂

EDIT ADD: I would one day like to have my own fruit and vegetable garden with seeds not made GMO. I would go as far and say I would actually like to own my own hobby farm with cows, chickens, pigs, etc..

I also discovered that corn is a big GMO, that is dangerous and has no nutrients whatsoever and corn also is not a veggie but a grain in case you did not know 😉 Which is sad because my daughter loves corn. Even the seeds are worthless, you cannot even grow them yourself to be natural or organic.

Anyway I have been buying more healthier foods tofu, whole wheat, veggies and fruits. I most recently made tofu tacos and they were delicious and finally after years of hating finally like the mushroom. Raw I have never had a problem with, just the cooked or canned. But now I like the cooked and still refuse to eat the can. I also tried Greek yogurt, which is also pretty good. Next is chia seeds, quinoa and kale.

I also drink protein, meal replacement and superfood shakes as well to make sure I get all my nutrients. I have tons of vitamins but not really a fan of taking them anymore.

Obviously you can see I have learned a lot since entering this industry lol! I love it though.

Now onto fitness…I make sure I have plenty of options. I have a gym membership where I like to do cardio such as the bike, treadmill, and the elliptical (which I am still learning to use lol). Then for strength training at the gym I do weights. I also like to do Zumba class and go swimming with my daughter.

For at home workouts I have plenty of DVDs, I have cardio and strength training, pilates, yoga, walking dvds. I also have weights and bands to use with these workouts and other equipment.

My new love is running. I prefer to run a track versus a treadmill. Its kind of hard to run around my residential area because  of the hills but I have done it a couple of times.
