Definition of Marijuana: Source: wikipedia
“Cannabis (/ˈkænəbɪs/) is a genus of flowering plants that includes a single species, Cannabis sativa, which is sometimes divided into two additional species, Cannabis indica and Cannabis ruderalis. These three taxa are indigenous to Central Asia, and South Asia. Cannabis has long been used for fibre (hemp), for seed and seed oils, for medicinal purposes, and as a recreational drug. Industrial hemp products are made from Cannabis plants selected to produce an abundance of fiber. To satisfy the UN Narcotics Convention, some Cannabis strains have been bred to produce minimal levels of THC, the principal psychoactive constituent responsible for the high associated with it and which is obtained through the dried flowers of Cannabis plants selectively bred to produce high levels of THC and other psychoactive cannabinoids. Various extracts including hashish and hash oil are also produced from the plant.”
First, currently what states is it legal to smoke pot for medical and recreational use:
Fifteen states and Washington D.C. legalized medical marijuana use between 1996 and 2010. WHY Legalize Pot for medical use:
5. Multiple Sclerosis
6. Tourette’s and OCD
7. ADD and ADHD
8. IBS and Crohn’s
10. Premenstrual Syndrome
The real benefit of Legalizing pot is tax may take state revenues higher look at Colorados 1st day they sold $1 million dollars worth of weed.
Now lets look at the negative because there is always people out there who will disagree :p According to Nancy Grace, weed will make people fat and lazy (not really a legit reason if you ask me) and of course always the debacle that marijuana is a gateway drug smh.
First of all I smoked pot a couple of times as a teen and some as an adult, but I have not ever in my life had a desire to do any other drug such as meth, crack, cocaine, heroine etc…The most I have ever done (besides weed) is smoked CIGARETTES and drink alcohol. I personally think Nancy Grace needs to smoke a bowl or two and she will change her tune real quick! Pot is NOT a drug, its a PLANT. Yes, it acts like a drug because of its affects but still is an all natural substance made my mother nature and not man made like other drugs.
I like to smoke pot when its the end of the day and I aint going anywhere and it helps me nap or even go to bed at night vs taking over the counter medicines which fuck with my liver and such, but weed, since its all natural, it doesnt do that. I live in Utah so it isn’t legal yet but I would prefer they legalize it before same sex marriage, which is the issue here in Utah right now.
I think all the states should make it legal for both recreation and medical purpose. It can increase the revenue for each state with the state and federal tax and help those who need it for medical and can decrease stress levels for normal average folk.
For example in other countries like Europe, Mexico etc…allow children of any age to drink coffee and beer, so there is no statistics of abuse in those countries, the same with nudity, no big deal in other countries like Europe and again no abuse of it. I swear USA does everything fuckin backwards.
Still though, marijuana is so intertwined into our culture starting with the hippies in the 60-70s, Cheech and Chong movies to fast forward to now when a single mom is selling weed to support her children after her husband passes away from a heart attack (the TV Showtime Series Weeds) starring Mary Louise Parker. Plus high profile celebrities like Snoop Dogg and Willie Nelson toke up, so it really is NO BIG DEAL.
I think people are really forgetting the fact that it is a PLANT, a PLANT people!
ADDED EDIT: I saw a recent news post on facebook that they want to be able to accept food stamps EBT for marijuana purchase. I still have no words for that one lol! Source: Welfare for Weed: Colorado Allows EBT Withdrawals at Pot Shops, okay maybe one thing, I think Colorado is a little too excited about pot being legal lol!
