Before I did this blog post, I had to make sure I didnt already do one on Dirty Dancing because its my favorite movie of all time.

This movie came out in 1987, I was 5 years old. But I dont think it was until 5 years later I became obsessed with it like I was with The Little Mermaid. I remember watching it over and over again and rewinding the tape to the last scene with Johnny Castle and Baby Houseman doing the last dance on repeat as well.

Now as an adult I did try to watch it every New Years Eve but I havent done that anymore in awhile.

I think what initially attracted me to this movie was the authenticity of it and the love story of course.

I think my favorite scene aside from the last scene was when they first met and she said “I carried a watermelon” I still get completely embarrassed for her when I watch it. The other scene is when they are singing loverboy, baby not sure of the actual name of the song.

The only thing I didnt like about the movie is the abortion but not just abortion but botched abortion.

Someone on IMDB.com was like why couldnt they have just said she broke her ankle or something? Which I sorta agree with but then Robby wouldnt have really been a villain of sorts.

I dont like shoes at all. I wear one pair of ugly shoes forever but the shoes and dresses in Dirty Dancing were to die for!

I also thought Cynthia Rhodes aka Penny Johnson in DD was so beautiful. Her sister Lisa was beautiful too but a stuck up snob so I dont like her as much and Penny was kind of bitchy at first then got over it when she saw how much Baby wanted to help.

But I think the reason why I like Baby so much was because she was awkward like I am and probably a lot of women could relate.

I have a big nose sorta, well its actually broken since 2001? I wont get it fix for fear or a new look or botched nose job, I rarely wear makeup or get dressed up and Im just simple. I think Baby was kind of the same way. Unfortunately Jennifer Grey in real life did get a nose job after the movie was successful and was unrecognizable and I think hurt her career after.

According to media, Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey did NOT get along at all. Which is crazy since they have the best on screen chemistry. They also did another movie together called Red Dawn I believe BEFORE Dirty Dancing. I think the problem may have been too much chemistry.

The movie also had the BEST soundtrack. All the early music from the 60s and 70s and possibly 80s. I loved Do you love me? by The Contours, Love Man by Otis Redding and of course Ive Had the Time of My Life but really just the whole soundtrack.

They did a remake in 2005 called Dirty Dancing Havana Nights and Patrick Swayze made an appearance in the movie. I thought it was ok but now they want to do another and they keep pushing back the project thank goodness but now they are going all crazy and remaking everything from Jurassic Park to Terminator.

They also did a Dirty Dancing Musical which makes me gag I guess to honor the movie but I think it just ruins the classic with the remakes and musicals. They also turn everything into a musical as well.

Anyway, unfortunately Patrick Swayze lost his life to pancreatic cancer in 2009 and before so he wrote a memoir with his wife Lisa Niemi called The Time of My Life. Looking back at his pictures before he passed away reminds me of my daddy I guess Swayze has kind of growing up. Makes me sad.

Following his death they celebrated Dirty Dancing 25th Anniversary in 2012.

Like my daddy, Dirty Dancing and Patrick Swayze will always be a part of me.
