Today I decided to blog about Emergency Preparedness after a link to How to Create an Emergency Binder came up on my newsfeed from FoodStorageMadeEasy.net plus the recent issue with the Flint Water Crisis Scandal.
I also happen to live in Utah and the LDS Mormon Church are very firm and big believers in Emergency Preparedness and I completely agree with them.
As far as my personal preparedness is going right now for my family I have a few storage cans and pocket knives nothing else really and certified in CPR. Im also part of a couple of prepper groups on Facebook. The storage I have are the ones that last for 30 years. I am not a fan of regular can foods that only last 3 years because then you have to switch them out frequently.
Before I begin I also believe in building your own kits, the premade ones are not customized to you or your situation but a couple of them to have around as extra aint bad neither.
First What is EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS? Per wiki “Disaster management (or emergency management) is the creation of plans through which communities reduce vulnerability to hazards and cope with disasters. Disaster management does not avert or eliminate the threats, instead it focuses on creating plans to decrease the impact of disasters. Failure to create a plan could lead to damage to assets, human mortality, and lost revenue. Currently in the United States 60% businesses do not have emergency management plans. Events covered by disaster management include acts of terrorism, industrial sabotage, fire, natural disasters (such as earthquakes, hurricanes, etc.), public disorder, industrial accidents, and communication failures.”
You will initially need to devise a family plan in case of an Emergency -> Family Plan
First thing you will need is a 72 hour bug out bag because that is how long it should take the state and federal government to take control of the situation at hand and to be able to reach you.
You will want a personalized kit for yourself, spouse, kids and pets and one for the car.
List of Agencies:
I honestly dont feel like Im providing enough information I have googled up and down looking for a comprehensive list and checklist for emergencies and as I said I am NOWHERE near ready for an emergency. I will continue to add to this list and you can never be too prepared neither because not only is life about living but its about survival too.
