“You are being watched. The government has a secret system: a machine that spies on you every hour of every day. I know, because I built it. I designed the machine to detect acts of terror, but it sees everything. Violent crimes involving ordinary people; people like you. Crimes the government considered ‘irrelevant’. They wouldn’t act, so I decided I would. But I needed a partner, someone with the skills to intervene. Hunted by the authorities, we work in secret. You’ll never find us, but victim or perpetrator, if your number’s up… we’ll find you”.
Season one opening voice-over by Harold Finch”
POI in a nutshell is basically a tv show about a private billionaire Harold Finch and ex-cia John Reese saving irrelevant numbers (social security numbers that pop up in the machine) to save normal people. While the relevant numbers are for the government to go after international terrorists. Read more thoroughly about Person of Interest on Wikipedia
When I first started watching this show it creeped me out about the mass surveillance going on especially since Edward Snowden spilled the details that our government is watching our every move.
I initially learned about the show on my breaks working at Walmart. I recognized Michael Emerson from Lost and Taraji P. Henson from Empire so I was intrigued. Then later I saw it on Netflix and decided to watch it after checking out Girlfriends Guide to Divorce.
I was going to save my review after watching Season 4 but decided I have enough information to express my opinion.
I absolutely love this show, because there is a grey area between good and bad, because not all good people are good and not all bad people are bad. For example I love Fusco, he was a NYPD dirty cop working with HR gone good working with Finch and Reese or Root assassin and hacker whos turned helpful and decent person.
Im amused that the machine, the artificial intelligence gets emotional, even though its just a machine that is basically mass surveillance. The machine according to Root, who is initially obsessed then becomes the machines tool refers to it as a “She” and Finch is kind of jealous since he created the machine but Root tells him that is the relationship he chose to have with it.
Finch, the private billionaire and creator of the machine, I just adore him. Michael Emerson, who plays Finch was also in another favorite show of mine, Lost as Ben Linus. He is a very gifted actor.
I was really annoyed when Taraji P. Henson left the show in the third season to either pursue movies or do Foxs Empire. I seen Empire, its alright, in my opinion though, her craft is more stretched though I think playing Joss Carter Homicide Detective in Person of Interest. She died taking down HR. She was shot in the heart. They could still bring her character back and say she faked her death.
Another favorite character of mine is Carl Elias who worked with HR at one time. He is some sort of mafia dude and allies with Reese/Finch because Reese saved his life. Then later Carter saved his and he revenged her death. Again another “bad” guy not really bad.
I also loved the fact that they got a dog (named Bear) from one of their numbers cases and who also helps out. Sweet. 🙂
Right now Im on Season 4 and they are up against Decima Technologies who is now helping out the government whos surveillance is now everywhere and so they have to protect themselves with invisible telecommunication cell phones and a new safe house location underground and new covers.
POI def makes me want to be more private and give up my smartphone, tablet and laptop because of being watched. The episode I watched last night showed an RFID chip, in reality I think the government makes it so you have nowhere to hide. I dont think so, I am not a commodity of the government, or a thing to be played with.
Anyway, this might be the end of the line though for the show unfortunately, I think they are going to make season 5 and be done with it. They always kill the best shows and its so freaking annoying. But you should totally watch it 😀
